Tho severity of the electrical storm which occurred nt South Hillend, Otago, recently, may bo judged from tho fact that seven of the power board poles showed signs of electrical discharge being taken to earth. This was evidenced by small splinters of sap wood tracing tile path from the top crossarms to the ground level. The pole which received tho main portion of the shock was slightly shattered, splinters being hurled a distance of about two chains. Residents who were in tho path of tho storm state that thunder was continuous for about 20 minutes, no time being distinguishable between tho flashes of lightning and the sound., The power hoard lines, as a result, were cut off for the remainder of the evening, but the current was soon restored,
