VORACIOUS CORAL
NOT VEGETARIAN LONDON, Dec. 13. How corals catch their prey is described by Dr. Yonge, leader Of the Australian Barrier ißecf expedition, who found that, contrary to accepted views, corals are capable of 'Capturing animal plankton (minute sea life), which are paralysed by nettle cells and carried to the coral’s mouth by tentacles or currents caused by the heating of minute hairs. Vegetable matter is always neglected. Dr. Yonge «avs that the practicability of a sardine fishery on Murray Island was proved. The growth of trochus shell was found to be unexpectedly rapid, and sponge of good commercial quality was plentiful on the reefs.
