SATISFACTORY YEAR USE OF FERTILISERS “The year now drawing to a close must he regarded as having been very satisfactory from the dairy producers’ point of view,” remarked Mr. 0. J, .Fortune, general manager of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., in an interview at Auckland. “Weather -conditions during last autumn and this season up to the present have been very favorable to big production, and the generous rainfall, coupled with the liberal use of fertiliser, resulted in a prolific growth of grass.” Mr. Parlane said that quite recently he had had an opportunity of it speeding a number of farms in the Atiamuri and Reparoa districts. The results achieved through the use of fertiliser in that light pumice country were simply astounding. He prophesied a future for the districts. REASONABLY GOOD PRICES “Prices, too,” said Mr. Parlnno, “have been reasonably good and they 1 nve ranged at a higher level than was anticipated, this being largely duo to dry seasons iji the Argentine and Australia curtailing production in those countries. [However, prices are now declining and as Australia is reported to be experiencing a very good season for production it appeal's that lower prices for butter can be looked for for some months to come. Wo have been fortujiate in securing a satisfactory mar feet in Canada this season for a vepy large quantity of Now Zealand butter, which has result-
ed in the Birtish market being relieved considerably.” In regard to cheese, Mr. Parlane stated that the forward position appeared reasonably satisfactory. If asked to say what he considered the most important happening during the year in the dairy industry, said Mi. Parlane, he would unhesitatingly hay it was the setting up of the Empire Dairies Marketing Organisation. 'Phis company had experienced a most successful year.
