GAIN IN POPULATION
MIGRATION FIGURES During November 657 persons of both sexes and all ages arrived in the Dominion with the avowed intention of taking up permanent residence, reports the Government 'Statistician. Over the same period 217 persons who described themselves as permanent residents of the Dominion left with 'the intention of making their homes elsewhere, the net gain to the "permanent" population for the month being 440 persons. The statistics for the 11 months of 1929 show that 5449 "permanent" immigrants arrived and 2360 "permanent" residents left, the balance of gain to the Dominion being 2599 souls. Corresponding figures for the -11 months of 1928 were 5612 "permanent" immigrants and 3688 "permanent" departures, with a net gain of 1924, or 675 less than that for the present year. The principal reason for the increased gain in 1929 appears to be due to the definite fallingoil in the number o$ permanent residents departing.
