CAR GOES OVER BANK ACCIDENT ON WHARERATA Having succeeded in extricating Ins car from the watertable in which it had been stuck, the driver of a car negotiating Wharerata hill at about 9 o'clock tin Christmas Eve had the misfortune to go over the bank on the other side of the road. As the result of the accident the driver. .Mr. Sye Joseph Anderson, is an inmate of a private hospital in Uisborne, suffering from a slight fracture to the skull and abrasions, though his 'jondition, it is understood, is not serious. The car. which contained also Mr. Walter Anderson, of Gis'borne, and son of the driver, and a lad named Ernest Hauling, of W'aimoaiia, near Tatapouri, was proceeding in the direction of Wairoa, and at a point about 200yds on the Gisborne side of the Wharerata Post Office, skidded and ran into the deep watertable. With the assistance of passing motorists the, car was placed on the road again, but when Mr. Anderson was driving past one of the cars which was drawn up on the side of the road, his right-hand wheels ran over a series of blimps, and the car skidded and toppled over tlie edge, falling a distance of between 20ft and 30ft, turning over,j and coming to rest upside-down. i Mr. Anderson's son and his companion were standing on the-road at this time, and the former hastened down the steep hank to ascertain his father's fate. Mr. Anderson, who remained conscious, was assisted up the bank ; he was bleeding fairly profusely about the head, and was hastened to town, where he was admitted to hospital.
