RACING
NEW STAR YOUNG ENGLISH JOCKEY AUSTRALIAN METHODS LONDON, Nov. 25. A worthy successor to that great Australian, Frank Bullock, of whom he is repeatedly reminiscent, is how the racing writer of The Times describes Jockey C. Ray, who rode 85 winners this season with Weston, while last year ho rode only 17 winners. He adds: “Although Ray is a Midlander, apprenticed in Great Britain, his style is essentially Australian; his seat, use of his legs, length of leathers, and low hands completely differing from other British jockeys. Whether these tilings are the most probable cause, or horses go exceptionally kindly for him, I don't know, but certainly his quickness in getting away from the starting gate is due to his methods. It is sometimes said that he cannot use the whip, but the truth is that he seldom tries, because lie knows when a horse has done all it possibly can. He is especially like Bullock in his handling of two-year-olds.”
