CHINESE CIVIL WAR
BATTLE FOR CANTON XWANGSI FORCES ADVANCE HONGKONG, Dec. 3. Reports state that last night the initial fighting for the possession of Canton commenced in earnest. The wounded are arriving in Canton. are being rushed by the Cantonese to the front in order' to strengthen thp resistance. The Kwangsi forces have been steadily advancing on Canton in the last few days, in conjunction with Nanking’s ‘'lronsides.” REGIMENT MUTINIES A DISTASTEFUL ORDER (Received December 4, 11 a.m.) SHANGHAI, Dec. 3.
Non-payment oS wages, coupled with dislike of an order to proceed with the Cantonese to light the revolting ironside .troops, precipitated a mutiny in a regiment of the twenty-fourth division of the Nationalist army commanded by General Shin Yu-San, at Pukow, opposite Nanking to-day. Soldiers are looting shops in the principal streets and fleeing to surrounding districts. Other troops have been called in to quell the mutiny, resulting in considerable shooting on the outskirts of Pukow. A number of civilians were killed and several houses burned. 'Die Pukow-Nanking ferry service has been suspended.
