GISBORNE SWIMMERS
OPENING CARNIVAL POSTPONED TILL TUESDAY At last, evening’s meeting of the executive of the Gisborne Amateur Surf and Swimming Club it was found necessary to postpone the opening carnival, which was to have been held to-morrow evening, till Tuesday, December 10. Further entries will he accepted up to noun on Monday. Mr. E. T. Clirisp presided at the meeting, at which there was a good attendance of members.
Mr. o.' Prince wrote accepting the position of vice-president, and enclosing a donation towards the club’s funds. The secretary was instructed to forward a letter of thanks to the donor.
A request from the Gisborne Amatbur Athletic and Harrier Club, that u carnival should lie held in aid of the athletic queen, caused a great deal of discussion. 11 was eventually decided that, a, Mardi Gras carnival he conducted, and halt the net proceeds donated to the athletic club.
The Heretannga. Swimming and Life Saving Club, Hastings, wrote submitting the compulsory dives for this season’s Ferguson Cup competition. The dives are: Low hoard, running pike and hack dive; high hoard, standing plain and running lmnch. Messrs. B. Palmer, D. L. Drummond, and J. Shaw were elected members of the club.
The following programme was adopted for the carnival on December 14, when N. Ryan and O. Griffiths, the Australian swimmers, will appear: 100 yards special invitation handicap, 220 yards special invitation handicap, 50 yards inter-club handicap, 33 1-3 yards junior handicap for boys under 144- years, 66 2-3 yards intermediate handicap, for boys under 17 years, 33 1-3 yards ladies’ interclub handicap, dive—low board, running pike and back dive; high board, standing plain, and running hunch, 100 yards relay handicap, three in team, and water polo match.
