SOCIAL JOTTINGS (By ‘‘Yvonne.’’) Air and Mrs. Stanley Clare have returned from a visit, to Tarawa station. ' Alisses Hope and Anne Gadduin have returned from a trip to Waikaremoaiia. Afiss V. McLean, of “Glenroa,’ ’ Otolco, is spending a few days in town. Miss -Margaret Meltdown*, who inis been on an extended trip to the Alalay States, returned to Gisborne last week. Air and Mrs Saunders, who have been the guests of their daughter, Mrs AV. It. Beattie, left on Monday morning for Christchurch. Airs L. Clare, of Gisborne, has been staying in Napier. Air and Airs F. Goodman, of Gisborne, were visiting Napier last week. -Miss 11. Black, who has been visiting friends in Christchurch and Wellington, has returned to Gisborne. Mr J. M. Callaghan, of Gisborne, is visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs J. W, Callaghan, Corry Avenue, Napier. Airs C. Gray, Poverty Bay, who has been the guest of Aliss Williams, ‘ ‘ Ilukaroro, ’ ’ Napier, has returned home. Afiss A. M. Batham, principal of the AVellington East Girls’ College, will leave for England from Sydney early in March next, returning to New Zealand, via the United States, in December. Air and Airs 11. B. Williams, Turihau, have been visiting Hawke’s Bay.

The annual meeting of Afangapapa Girl Guides company was held in ' St. John's llall on Monday afternoon, when those present included: Airs. Jamieson, tho district, commissioner, and Mesdamcs Trowel!, Andrews, Ferris, Trafford. Clare, Cowan, Hudson, arid Aliss Hilda Watkins. An apology was received from Matron Benjamin, the election of officers resulted: Mrs. Ferris, president; Airs. Trafford, vice-president: Mrs. Clare, lion, secretary and treasurer; arid Alesdames Andrews, Cowan, Hudson. ‘.Matron Benjamin, and Miss Hilda Watkins, committee. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs.* Trowel I. the. retiring secretary, for her splendid year's work. The company now closes down till February, when it re-opens with a garden party in tho grounds of Airs. Ferris’ home at Afangapapa. when a!l_ friends and parents interested in guide work will be welcome. At- the close of the meeting afternoon tea was dispensed and a happy and prosperous year's work was brought to a close. On the occasion of Lady Alice Forgussnn’s visit to Gisborne, Her Excellency made a special appeal to mothers to interest themselves in the inauguration of a branch of the League of Afothers in Gisborne. An opportunity to further Her Excellency’s wishes ami to learn more of the aims of the league will lie given on Friday evening at the Borough Council chambers, when the Mayoress, Airs. I). AV. Coleman, will preside; it is to be hoped there will be a good attendance of mothers.

The engagement is announced of Amy, only daughter of Air and Airs G. F. Roach, Havelock North, to Douglas Earl, only son of Air and. Airs T. E. Lindsay, Wairoa.

The wedding of Mr H. R. Williams, of Gisborne, to Afiss Beth Caldwell, daughter of Mr and Mrs W. A. Caldwell, of Tolaga Bay, was being solemnised to-day at Tolaga. The bride and bridegroom are both very popular, and have the good wishes of a host of friends.

A BRIDGE PARTY On Friday evening Afiss Sue Chrisp was hostess at a bridge party in honor of Afiss Rita Afatthews, whose marriage is to take place shortly. The drawing-room looked bright with beautiful roses and pink antirrhinums, while the supper fable in the dining-room was enhanced with a bowl of blue cornflowers and pink Sweet William.

Aliss Chrisp was wearing a dainty frock of blue georgette with a silver bodice.

Afrs'E. .T. Chrisp wore black satin and georgette with Oriental embroidery.

Afiss Rita Afatthews chose a pretty frock of green georgette with petalled skirt.
