The anti-betting crusade by the Sydney police has in three months resulted in 303 persons being convicted, the fines exceeding £4OOO. Members of friendly societies in New South Wales, of whom there are 245,000, will bo required to pay probably £llO,000 a year extra, if the new rate, proposed by the doctors, becomes effective.

’The damage done by goats to the bush in Egmont National Park was described by the chief ranger at a meeting of the Park Board. He said that the two men engaged to kill goats on the reserve had killed 130 in six days, bringing the total accounted for to 1012.
