SPEEDY ’PLANES
ACROSS AUSTRALIA RACE STARTING TO-MORROW SYDNEY. September 16. The transcontinental air race from Sydnev to Perth in connection with the West ‘Australian Centenary celebrations will be started at 7.30 a.m. on September 28. ‘ All the competing machines have to he at. Mascot not later than September 26. The race will last for six days. The total distance is 2445 miles, over all types'of country,. from mountain to desert.
The various stages of the contest will he controlled l>v the Aero Club of tho States through which the machines are passing. The event wil he a handicap. Prizes will he awarded for the fastest time on handicap and also for speed. First prize for fastest time on handicap will be £IOOO, with £3OO for second, and £IOO for third. For the fastest time over the whole course, regardless of handican. £3OO will he awarded. A prize of £SO will also be won each day for the fastest time on handicap over each section.
