POWER BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Poverty Bay Power Board was held to-day, there being present Messrs. F. R. Ball, chairman, L. H. Maclean, B. T. Holdswortli, M. T. Trafford, T. Corson, S. V. Beaufoy, A. C. Steele, M. J. White, H. H. DeCosta, C. H. Bridge, and J. Tombleson. The Wairoa Power Board advised that the official opening of the Waikaremoana power scheme by the Gov-ernor-General, Sir Charles F erg us.son, would take place on November 20. The estimated total cost of the celebrations was from £l5O ,to £2oo.—On the motion of the chairman, a donation of £lO was .made to the cost of the celebrations, the matter being subject to revision later. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The engineer, Mr. W. H. Bus well, submitted a report on the month’s work as under:— " J’lie high tension extension from the end of Darwin road to Messrs. T. Holden and Son’s was finalised, the final inspection taking place on the 20th, and livened up on the same day. Aluminium cable is used on this 6600 volt line, from the end of Darwin road to Mr. T. Holden’s, sen., and galvanised wire for the remaining distance. “Considerable trouble is being experienced with the telephone system used in conjunction with the repeating apparatus between the power station and Patutahi sub-station; also the recording instruments are still undergoing tests. A low tension extension service was run to the Kia Ora dairy factory for supplying small power to the factory, and also a domestic supply to the cottages. An extension of the line to Mr. Gardner’s residence at Hexton was completed, low tension being only necessary at the moment. An extension from the end of the Darwin road line at the commencement of the aluminium line to the residence of Mr. F. Gay was completed. “In order to allow new connections to he made to the instrument transformers at the Patutahi sub-staion it was necessary to deaden the busbars, necessitating running the power house plant 2j hours on August 22. “hi regard to wireless sets, a persistent '•ause of interference was found in Batters road, Makauri; the cause was due to a broken insulator. A high tension connection was made along the Ormond Valley road to the residence of Mi - . Shute, a distance of 54 chains. There seems to bo an increasing demand for milking plants, and most of the extensions effected during this month have been for this purpose. The milking plant is the most expensive of all extensions to run, requiring a three-phase four-wire line, and three phase transformer.” *
