THE GISBORNE CLUB * ANNUAL MELTING The annual meeting of the Gisborne Racing Club was held this afternoon, there being a fair attendance of members. The chair was taken by the president, Mr. D. J. Barry, who in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, as published recently in the Herald, asked members for a full discussion of any points in either document that might require elucidation. Mr. G. B. Oman commented that there were some questions lie would like to have taken in committee. • Mr. B. H. Aislabie asked how the item “arrears £145” was accounted for, and was informed that this amount represented sums owing from the previous year, and collected during the year under review. The account of £152 for luncheons was commented upon by Mr. H. E. Bright, who remarked that it was hard on the club to pay an equivalent of £3 per week all through the year to pay lor luncheons on four days a year.—The president stated that he had thought for a long time that the luncheons were costing the club too much. This was the general impression among those present. TWO 'GOOD MEETINGS.

Respecting the report generally, tlio president commented that the profit of £136. after making due allowance for depreciation compared very favorably with the positions of other clubs of the same size. The club had had two good meetings, without any trouble, tliero having been very clean racing, lhe outlook for the future was excellent, and the increase in the totalisator turnover was a happy omen. On the score o{ raying taxation, Mr. ALjvy declared that it was the public, iSul not the racing clubs, which were being penalised, the money drawn by the taxation coming out of the pockets of the public, rather than from the coffers of the clubs. The president further remarked that the staff, and particularly the secretary, had done good work during the year. Mr. D. IT. Barry was re-elected president of the club. Mr. H. E.
