POSITIONS OF TEAMS The men’s championship competition under the auspices of the Poverty Bay Hockey Association has closed, 'and at this stage the positions of the teams stand as follows:

A HOCKEY DIFFICULTY The management committee of the New Zealand Hockey Association at Christchurch lias received a letter from the Wellington association objecting t<tho action of the New Zealand association in preventing the Wellington selector from refereeing in the match be tween Wellington and the Australians after he had been appointed as referee in the nuiich by the Wellington associu tion. The chairman reported to a meeting of the committee that lie had drawn Wellington’s attention to the principle laid down 10 years ago, that selectors were debarred from refereeing. Welling ton, however, was still dissatisfied, and was asking for further ~ explanation*,. The seei’Mary was instructed to notify Wellington that the New Zealand Hockey Association was in charge o! hockey in the Dominion and that its interpretations and rulings for the conduct of the game must he accepted.
