MUNICIPAL WORKS

PROGRAMME FOR QUARTER SEVERAL LARGE JOBS Several large and important works are to be undertaken in the borough daring the coming quarter, according to the report submitted by the engineer. Mr. A. Young, to the, fortnightly meet log of the Borough Council last evening. Below is a list of the seven major work? jprbich it is proposed shall be commenceo dining the quarter : (1) Gladstone road: Lifting and re Htoval of tram track between Roebueltoad raid Lytton road, and reconstructing roadway in watevbourfd metal 14ft. wide. (2) Extending Kaiti Beach road from present terminus to boundary—a distance of 40 chains. (.3) Improvement of Kaiti Hill memorial park road: Grading slopes o: tattings, construe ting water tables, and gravelling. (4) Harris street between Wainui road and Rutene road: Reconstruction in waterbound metal 20ft. wide in first instance, afterwards to receive a bitumer grouted top course. (51 Mcßae baths: Construction of swimming pool. (6) Stormwater drainage, Clifford street: Extension of 2i't. pipe, Hall street to Tlallance street. fl) Stormwater drainage in Gladstone i: id and Lytton road area: Laying of 30in pipes and 9in. pipes to replace existing deep oepn drains. Reporting upon the works at present in the engineer stated : "XJnemployment relief works: K«aiti Baach road. —The construction of thif r< id from the township towards the borough boundary, south end, is pro gressing satisfactorily. The Returnee' >'-.ldlers' Association is contributing to wards the cost of this work. Pitteer returned soldiers are employed.
