The Prince of Wales escorted by five French planes returned to England yesterday by an aeroplane, from Le Tourquet where he spent a golfing holiday.—A. and N.Z.C.A. It is reported from Sydney that the condition of Mrs. Neil' Stewart, who, with her husband, since deceased, was injured in an aeroplane crash at Wentworth Falls, on July 20, is showing great improvement. Jack Hobhs, the former English cricketer, is to be a member of England's team for the fifth test match against the South Africans. Hobbs stood out of the previous four tests, considering ho was not in sufficient, form. Carr will captain the eleven. Mr. Leslie H. Reynolds, consulting engineer to .the Gisborne Harbor Hoard, left this morning for Nelson, where he will be engaged in investigating the harbor facilities, with a view to further improvement on bis original scheme for that. port.
The. King lias approved of the appointment, of Mr. Sydney Phillip Waterlow, lately Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary at Addis Abba, to be Envov Extraordinary and Minis tor Plenipotentiary at Sofia.—British Official Wireless. '
The many friends of .Mrs. A. M. Beer. J.P., will learn with pleasure that she is making good recovery from the severe illness for which she has ■> een under treatment during the past, four weeks. Mrs. Beer will be able to resume her duties as secretary of the Citizens' Defence Committee shortly.
