REDUCTION IN STAKES
AUCKLAND CLUB'S DECISION (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night, The committee, of tho Auckland Racing Club has decided to reduce the stakes for its four meetings in tho current season by £2400 to £58,550. lho Groat Northern Champagne gtak.es has been reduced from £ISOO to £IOOO. tho Mitvehelson Cup and Great Northern Foal Stakes each from £ISOO to £1250, the Railway Handicap from £I4OO to £1250, the A.R.C Handicap from £1750 to £ISOO, the- Summer Cup from £1250 to £IOOO. The reductions in the other races are smaller. The Auckland Cup stake is unchanged at £3OOO. The stake for the Brighton Hurdles has been increased from £SOO to £6OO. The distance of the Clifford 1 Plate, weight-for-age, at the summer meeting, has been reduced from a mile and a-half to a mile and a-quarter.
