The erection of a new Roman Catholic primary school has just begun at Te Aroha. The section is one of the finest in Te Aroha, and cost £1350. It is estimated that the building will cost £SOOO. A hall is to be built in connection with the new school at a cost of CI2OO. This building will also be finished in rimu. A legal opinion has been received by the Inglewood County Council from the solicitors of the New Zealand Counties Association that the Public Works Amendment Act of 1928 confers definite powers to local authorities to cause all trees and fences obstructing or obscuring the view of traffic to bo removed. or trimmed to the satisfaction of the local authority. That the district around Wanganui should be more thickly populated'than it is to-day, was the view expressed by Mr. W. J. Gilbert at the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce. He advocated the cutting up of large holdings for settlement, and stated that between Wanganui and Patea, tracts of land were to he seen with only a few sheep on them and.* capable of teing put to moro prosperous uses.
