"SUNSHINE PRODUCTS"

NEW ZEALAND'S DISPLAY PUBLICITY IN WHITE CITY LONDON', Poll. 10. At the British Industries Pair, opened at the White City yesterday, the Empire Marketing Board has again organised a line disuplay which takes up a. commanding position near the main entrance. Commodities produced in (Treat Britain itself have pride of place, and one may see how year by year the manufacturers are improving the outward attractiveness of their special preparations. The New Zealand section, arranged by the Government Publicity Department, is a stand .'loft, in length and ISf't. in depth. A great deal of care has been taken to make it especially attractive —indeed, perhaps the most attractive of all the stands. This has been done partly by the flood-lighting effect. Along the middle of the back wall there is a row of eight wax models of lamb carcases. On to these is directed the strong light from unseen globes, the effect being to make the carcases appear as the very linest specimens of real New Zealand lamb. Over the top of these is a large sign: •'.New Zealand is Britain's greatest supplier of honey, dairy produce, butter, lamb, crossbred wend —sunshine products." It is this idea of "sunshine" that is aimed at in the lighting effects. Floodlights from the ceiling give the whole exhibit a very bright aspect, which immediately claims attention. On the left wing of the stand honey is displayed, the mechanical figure which has attracted attention in the High Commissioner's window for some time being again used to proclaim the special attributes of the produce. Along the back arc to be seen specimen tins of dried milk and a large pyramid of boxes of New Zealand butter made visible by means of a glass front. Beneath the lamb carcases are all kinds of bv-protlucts from the meat factories. To the right is another pyramid of seventeen cheeses. Then come such articles as tinned conserves, sheep's tongues, whitebait, rabbit skins ami kauri -gum. Tho right wing is devoted to n sports display, of which the chief feature is a fine specimen of a swordfish. Salmon and rainbow trout are also shown, and the walls are decorated with tho heads of stags. Two detached tables hnve on thorn an exhibit of honey and tow respectively. A counter in tho front of the stand is fitted with a machine for packing two-ounce cartons of butter,, which'are being sold throughout the show by members of the staff of tho Dairy Board. In these exhibitions it is always difficult to got away from the conventional method of merely piling up produce which may or may not make an appeal to tho general public. On this occasion tho Publicity Department has gone out of its way" to impress a definite idea upon the spectators—tho idea of sunshine. It has certainly succeeded. An important exhibition is to bo hold at Ncwcnstle-on-Tync, opening about Mav 15, and lasting for six months. Called the North-East Coast Exhibition, it will be tho most important fixture of its kind that has boon held in the North of England for many years. Tho manager is Mr. C. P. Ha'msworth, who "had charge of the Dunodin and South Seas Exhibition. Tho British Dominions will be exhibiting in a pavilion provided by the Empire Marketing Board. Each will have a month in the main pavilion. New Zealand is to have the first month. _____
