POWER FAILURE

TUAI CUTS OUT AGAIN STAND-BY PLANT TAKES LOAD : A power failure occurred at an early Hour this morning, the- supply from Tuai power-house, the headquarters of the Waikaremoana scheme, cutting out as a result of some development the details of which were not known in Gisborne this morniug. For a time, the town of Gisborne was without' light or power, but in the space of a quarter of an hour the standby plant maintained by the Poverty Bay Electric Power Board was started up, and took the Trie change-over to the standby plant necessitated starting up the B.C. engines as well as tne new um * s a l the Gisborne power-house, and the staff of the power-house registered a good performance in getting the whole of the plant going in the space of a quarter of an hour. It is not anticipated thatfuture changes from the national supply to the local mechanically-produced supply will take as long, but this morning's failure of the Tuai power took place at an hour when communication was slow, and some time was lost in ascertaining whether it would be necessary to cut in the standby engines. Though details of the southern development which caused the cessation of the supply from Tuai were not obtainable, the Gisborne power-house chief was informed that it would be some hours before the Tuai supply would be renewed. \ '
