ALLEGED BROKEN PROMISE
YOUNG WOMAN'S CLAIM

An interesting action concerning an alleged broken promise to a young woman by the late l.cbbons Ilordern will probably be heard at the 'May-dune civil sittings of the Supreme Court. Plaintiff is M.iss Maud Chilvcrs. of Parling Point, Acting on her behalf, Mr, X. I>, Thomas, solicitor, has tiled a declaration in the Supreme Court where Miss Chilvcrs claims £IO,OOO damages against the estate of the late. Ijchbens Hordern for work done as l.cbbons Hordern's private secretary during his lifetime at his various private homes.
The declaration alleges that the late Mr. Ilordern promised to marry plaintiff if she remained in his employ as private secretary, and that in the meantime he would make his will, in whichhe would adequately remunerate plaintiff in the event of his death before the marriage took place. The declaration further alleges that in consideration of the promise made by Mr. Hordern plaintiff loft her employment elsewhere to enter his employ, and that Mr, Hordcrn had not redeemed his promise to her.
It is understood that the oxventors nf the estate have not yet tiled a plea to Miss Chilvcrs' declaration. The late Mr. Hordern's estate was valued at ifcKO.OOO,
