RECOMPENSED!
MAURICE LEYLAND’S LOSSES
MELBOURNE, March 12.
A testimonial was opened this morning for Maurice Leyland in recognition of his scoring a century in his first lest match. , .. , Leyland on Friday lost a wallet containing £65 and a gold wristlet watch. However, it seems as if he will be more than compensated for his ill-fortune. When Leyland arrived at the Melbourne Cricxet Ground this morning he was handed a package. On opening it. lie found a gold wristlet watch with a card inscribed: “Congratulations on your splendid innings.” There was no signature, but Leyland is deeply grateful to the anonymous giver of the gift. Instead of his first Test Match having unpleasant memories, it is going to be the other way, for lie has had bis watch replaced, scored a century, and the subscription is in a fair way towards topping the £65 which he lost.
