OFFER FOR STREPHON
BOOKMAKERS IN QUANDARY
SYDNEY, March 12
Negotiations are said to be proceeding for private sale of Strephon, Mr. Sol Green’s horse. The price mentioned is 15,000 guineas. It is also a condition that he should run in the St. Legcr before he changes hands. This is said to be creating a hold-up in negotiations. In the meantime bookmakers and bettors are in a quandary over Mr. Green’s announcement that Strephon will not run in the Sydney Cup. Already a lot of money has been invested in doubles. ‘lf the bookmakers thought; Strephon would not run they would shorten odds of other horses. Again, if they take risks against him they may lose tremendously. If Strephon is unsold by Cup day he will not be started by Mr. Green, who will take him for a descent on the English turf.
