WIFE TORTURED
HUSBAND’S CRUELTY PERTH. March 12. Amazing allegations of a husband’s cruelty to his wife were made to-day in the Divorce Court when Alfred Frederick Lawrence sought a divorce from Elsie Aland Lawrence on the ground of desertion. The wiic claimed that she was entitled to a decree on similar ground through having been forced to leave him on account of hfs cruelty when they lived at Young’s Siding, on the Great, Southern Railway.
Mrs. Lawrence said that some time after reading a book describing how Red Indians tortured prisoners, her husband, who had a violent temper, pressed his thumbs on tire hall of her eyes, as a result of which she lost the sight, of her right eye. Her nose was also broken as the result of blows. Ilis Honor said he thought the woman’s story was substantially correct, and granted her petition.
