FIVE BODIES EXHUMED

AN EXTRAORDINARY SCENE SCOTLAND YARD INQUIRIES (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.LONDON, March 22. Extraordinary scenes were witnessed at dead of night,at Croydon, when five bodies were exhumed at the instance of the police —those of Mrs Violet Sidney, 09, widow of a barrister; her daughter, Vera, 40. who died on February 19; her brother-in-law, Edmund Duff, 59, ex-High Commissioner of Nigeria, who died in, April of last year; and Duff’s two daughters, Suzanne, aged two years, who died in 1904, and Margaret, aged seven years, who died in 1919. The exhumations took place simultaneously and that of so many bodies together is probably unprecedented. Investigations began after the sudden death of Airs Sidney, when the coroner adjourned the inquest without any explanation. Scotland Yard authorities have since pursued inquiries with the greatest secrecy. The disinterments at the cemetery took place after midnight behind canvas screens.
