Tilden lias been restored to good amateur standing by the executive of the United States Lawn Tennis Association, lie was suspended, some six months ago, for a, violation of the association's player-writer rule. He will immediately compete at indoor tournaments at New York and then proceeds to practice before he and Hunter begin a lihiropeau lour in thg coming spring. It, is believed to he unlikely thai he will be chosen for the American Davis Cup team, although be will probably compete at other important tournaments. The ranking of American tennis players is as follows: Tilden, Hunter, Lott, Henessey, Allison, Vamyn, Mercer, Uoog, Seligson, and Shield. The United Stales Lawn Tennis Association executive committee adopted a recommendation that no player while a member of the Davis Cup team, or other international team, representing the lulled States, shall write, give interviews, or contribute to publications, or give radio talks with or without compensalinn, without the consent of the Davis Cup committee, II is understood that the executive committee declined to underwrite an open tournament between professionals and amateurs, which was one of the indicated ways whereby clubs with expensive plants could augment their revenue. The intimation was that until the professional association puts its own house in order no such tournament will he approved. It is an open secret, however, that in an open tournament the grade of play of professionals might seriously overshadow that oi amateurs.
