Tlic representative of the Clothing Manufacturers' Research Board, appearing before the Tariff Commission, said the tariff duties on wool and ivollens are "pyramided" and add four dollars to the price of the average man's suit. He said the price
of clothing was approximately twice the average charge before the war. The tariff was the second of factors responsible for this increase, labor cost being first.
Ho added: "Prices aceimut for much of the deplorable condition iu the woollen manufacturing industry, and chiefly for the drop in wool consumption from 681,000,0001b5, in 1022 to 538,000,0001b's in 1928." He asked that the wool duties be left as they are.
The representative of the National Grange, a leading farm organisation, asked that the wool duties be based en 38 cents per pound for scoured clothing -wool of good grade.
