Ransom, questioned to-day regarding the level-crossing'danger, said - ' the department had the matter under review. Innumerable devices for lessening the danger had been offered for a test of their efficiency. Mr. H. 11. Sterling said that with the limited funds available it was dif- " ficult to embark on any ambitious scheme for eliminating crossings. A Wherever local authorities co-operated and bore the share of the expense prompt measures to abolish dangerous -> crossings were always taken. No ap- y plication of this nature had been refused by the department;^
