Devices that give settlers warning of approaching floods have now been patented, the machine being an automatic one,, which, when the water rises to danger point, gives an alarm through n telephone wire to the nearest post office, from where the warning is broadcast to the settlers. The Hawke’s Bay Rivers Board is investigating the question of acquiring one of these machines, which are reported to be fairly costly, with a view to installing it in one of the Hawke’s Bay rivers for the protection of farmers.
