RAILWAY EXTENSION
DARGAVILLE TO TANGOWAIIINE Work on the Dargavillt; branch railway line is being expedited. Last week over (30 nice were placed on flic section between DargaviJlo and Tangowahine. At Tewharau, three iniies out from Dargaville, 1 ."> single men's huts and a number oj' married meat's quarters wvi-f elected at hall; a dozen vantage points. in the vicinity or' Wharau u start has been made on the earthwork embankment. Early next month u start will be. made with the two deviations of the main highway between Mr. Edward Harding's property and Tanguwuhnie, of a total length of a mile and a quarter, which must be completed before the construction of the line, Tangowahine is a transformed village, with 81 single men's huts and'a court house, and L'l! married men'a quarters, a total of 100 men being in residence at the junction of Onetea road with the main highway, The latter is being deviated to' the east. The laying of the permanent lipe is completed over three' miles through the Opialto swamp, Preliminary work, has been completed fur the const rue lion of a If'ft. three-mile long emlitAikntent, and al the same-time a road line for a mile and a quarter, which will provide access to Die sections in the subdivision scheme of Tangowahiiic block, has been constructed. On the Mangaru hills relief workers have practically completed the widening of the road, eliminating sharp corners. The surface is now receiving three courses of.' metal and chips carried from Kirikoptiui.—Auckland Star.
