OFFICIAL STATEMENT (For Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Tt is officially announced that Mr. Robot Kennedy, of Wellington, lias Keen appointed a. judge ol the Supremo Court. Mr. Justice Kennedy lias had a brilliant scholastic and legal career. Horn on .May 18, 1883, lie was educated at the Southland Hoys’ High School, and completed his studies at Victoria University College. In addition (o winning the duxship of the Southland Hoys' High School, he topped the list, in the Junior Civil Service examination, and achieved, with distinction, a similar success in the senior examination. Mr. Justice Kennedy also was a junior and senior university scholarship holder. He graduated M.A. with first-class honors, and LL.M. with a like distinction, and was Jacob Joseph research scholar in arts and also in law. The new judge was examiner in law to the New Zealand University, ami is a. past president of the Wellington District Law Society, of which lie is still a member. Mr. Justice Kennedy, further, is a member of fbe Now Zealand Law Society. He was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of tbe Supreme Court on February 3, 1911, and has practised in Wellington since 1912. He is regarded as one of Wellington’s ablest advocates, and is held in the greatest esteem by Bench and Bar alike. Announcement of liis preferment will be received with much satisfaction by a wide circle of friends and colleagues. “Mr. Kennedy’s standing in the profession,” writes one. who moves in legal circles, ‘‘was exemplified at the law conference held in Christchurch last Faster, when bis contributions to tbe discussions were received with marked respect. His language is terse and apt, and bis keen, analytical mind, is revealed by bis exposition. Naturally commercial causes would gravitate to an advocate so endowed, and so it is today that- be stands in the forefront of Wellington’s mercantile lawyers. He is solicitor to the Dairy Control Board and tbe National Dairy Association, and is tbe regular consultant of many important mercantile bouses. lie has an extensive knowledge of commercial practice and custom, as well as law; also, what is somewhat rare in the Dominion, an extensive knowledge of maritime law and usage of tho chief maritime countries of the world. Mr. Kennedy is a, wide reader in tbe field of contemporary history, and lie finds bis recreational reading in biography and reminiscence. He lias for many years been an ardent angler.”
