N.S.W. COAL CRISIS
MINES MAY HAVE TO CLOSE (Received Feb. 1, II a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 1. Mr. C. McDonald, chairman of the Northern 'Collieries’ Association, stated that unless the erisis in the coal industry was quickly ended> a number of Newcastle and Maitland collieries would have to close down. Tenders were being called by the South Australian Government for thß supply of 809,000 tons of coal. The only hope of New South Wales collieries securing the tender was by a substantial reduction in price.
