A STRONGER TEAM
THE AUSTRALIAN ELEVEN ENGLISH PRESS COMMENT (Elcc. Tel. Copyright—-United Press Assn.J (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) LONDON, Dec. 28. r There are indications of the keenest interest in the third test. The press generally is discussing the changes in the Australian team, and the prospects. The Daily Telegraph anticipates that the English eleven will meet sliffer opposition at Melbourne than hitherto. The introduction of Oxenham .'.'. and a'Beckett means a formidable' combination of bowlers and it needs only a little luck, which has not yet come to Australia, which may make the struggle very even. While jt would be pleasant to win the rubber with two games in hand there will be many here who would like to see their opponents mase a bold bid for victory in this match. . ' The Morning Post says the- Australian e'even is perhaps a stronger side than the one which played in Sydney, though Ponsford will be sorely missed at Melbourne, where he scored his principal triumph. England would have • been cheaply rid of Ponsford on a favorite pitch for anything under 100. The most significant change is" the ' dropping of Ironmonger and the requisitioning -of Oxoubum to strengthen the attack. F*? undoubtedly was a great "howler in his day, has plenty of spin, varies .his attack, and possesses a cricket brain. * Sporting Life regards the Australian test team as stronger than at Brisbane or Sydney. There is no question,, it, says, "that the attack has been strengthened. " , *■■- RYDER TO BE CAPTAIN MELBOURNE, DV. 28. Ryder has been appointed captain of the Australian eleven and Woodfull viceenptain. - _. ;■' *~ THE ENGLISH TEAM . . SYDNEY, Dec. 28." Although the English team will not formally be announced until to-morrow it is understood the team will be the same as that which won tne. second test. MEMENTOES OF TESTS" SCHOOLBOYS' EXHIBITION j lAustralian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received Dec. 29, noon.) - ... LONDON, Dec, 28. A wonderful collection of historical exhibits at the Schoolboys' Own Exhibition at Westminster includes the ball with which Tate had a big share of winning the 1926 test, -and the bat, with which Ponsford made the world's score.
