LONG SERVICE MEDAL FIRE BRIGADE FUNCTION A medal for 25 v oafs five brigade service was presented to ex-lurenuui -I. J. Me Lachlan at a function held by Gisborne Fire Brigade on Christmas Eve. There was a good attendance of members, supplemented by lire police, and members of the Waipaoa brigade. Superintendent ,1. W. Kane, who presided. asked the .Mayor. -Mr. I). W. Coleman, to present Llm 25 years’ service medal. in making the. presentation, the Mayor remarked that, lie had known ex-Fireman .McLachlan for a long time, ami know him to have had a line record. Jhe .Mayor recalled an occasion when the guest of the evening stopped a runaway horse, this being quoted as an example of the. promptitude and disregard of risk displayed in the interests of others. The Mayor also paid a tribute to the keenness witji winch the volunteer firemen ns a whole carried out their work, and for those men no praise could bp too high. Deputy-Superintendent, A. Iliomson spoke of the reliance that brigade members placed in ex-Fireman .McLachlan s abilities. It. was over 30 years, said the deputy-superintendent, since Air. McLaclilan had joined the Gisborne brigade, but the continuity of his service had been broken for a period when his duties took hi'in out. of town. The captain of the fire police, Mr. A. Zachariah, and the secretary, Mr. G. K. Faslov. also spoke oh the popularity and efficiency of the. guest of the evening. During Ids reply.
