DANCE HALL RIOT

TWO POLICEMEN ATTACKED MELBOURNE, Dec. 20. Constables Brown and McCulloch arrested two men under the influence of liquor at a dance hall. The men resisted violently and 20 other dancers came to their assistance. The policemen were thrown to the ground and savagely kicked. Constable Brown's baton was wrenched from him. He drew a revolver, and the men again rushed him, and, during the struggle, the gun exploded and William Kraesst was shot dead and another man wounded.
