A DARING BURGLARY
AUCTION ROOMS ENTERED “HAUL” VALUED AT £SO fe ! :J A daring robbery was perpetrated in town either on Christmas Eve or early on Christmas morning, when Barwick s auction rooms were entered, and articles to the value of between E4O and £SO stolen. The tiiief or thieves selected what they required of the new goods stocked by the firm, and coolly walked out through the front door, which they left ajar. 'The premises were closed late on Monday night, and when Mr. Fred Barwick returned to the rooms at 8.50 the following morning he discovered the mam front door standing wide open. A brief survey of the interior sufficed to show him that be had been deprived of a quantity of his stock, but the thieves apparently were not of a greedy nature, for they left large quantities of more valuable articles on the shelves, and contented themselves with a swag comprising hosiery, clocks, artificial jewellery, etc. Access to the premises was gained through the big sliding double door at the rear by the simple expedient of lifting one naif of the door off the rail, and pulling it out far enough at the top to enable the visitors to scramble through, after first having climbed on to empty chicken coops outside. Having selected what they wanted, they packed the articles into two new suitcases, and departed through the front door, no doubt making their escape in a motor-car. '■
