IMPORTANT EXPERIMENTS In connection with the broadcasting tests to he conducted by Captain Andresen from the Norwegian whaling vessel N. T. Nielson Alouso which is now stationed in the Ross Sea ice flow, 3LO Melbourne, has received an iptiination by fadiograhi.through 'lib Hobarl; from Captain Andresen as follows :■■■ "Regret very much being unable yot to carry out tests in opnsequciieu of being continuously engaged with preliminary work on fixing up wha'lehoats, factories and direction finders, also heavy commercial communications. The Broadcasting station has been equipped and prill inform you as soon .as possible when tests will begin. These will be conducted on Tuesday and Thursday at ,7 b'c.lock iI.M.T. (corresponding to b p.m. .\ielbnurne time). The weather and drifting among icebergs and icepacks keep us continuously telegraphing witl) small whalei's .which are scattered about sometimes in the far distance from the mother-ship. Daily communication with Norway has to be maintained, thus making it 'impossible to promise regular services, but we will do our best. All is well—best regards to all. Andresen."

Immediately a notification is received from Captain Andresen that broadcasting is to eommciieeffrom (lie Nielson Alonso, 3LO will make announcements. Apart from a broadcasting novelty these tests will lie of great importance from an experimental point of view as they may go far in solve flic phenomena of fading and static so far as the theory of polar nnurnotic disturbances is concerned. ■The transmission from the whaling vessel will lie lhade. upon a short wave length. These.will be picked up h'v 2ZL ffobart, 3LO ! Melbourne and. SCL .Adelaide and: broadcast upon the regular wave lengths of those stations.
