THE MONTHLY MEETING I (Herald Correspondent.) There were present at the monthly meeting of the Waiaptt County Council Crs A. W. Kirk, chairman, M. Hyland. F. J. Williams, W. Ohtes, A. B. Williams, S. F. Burdett and'H. H. Fairhe. A considerable amount of correspondence was handled, most of the letters relating to small matters concerning individual ratepayers only. One letter of importance was that from the Minister of Public Works, who stated that he was prepared to approve of the sum of £2OO being spent on the reforming and metalling of 55 chains of the Eangitnkia road, on condition that the council undertakes to reform the balance of tne road out of its own funds. -The Minister's offer was accepted, and the terms agreed to. Tlie usual reports of the sanitary inspector and the county engineer were received, and revealed satisfactory positions in regard to the- respective departments. A number of tenders were received for various jobs throughout the county, and were dealt with as under: Waiau road, metalling 2 miles; three tenders received, £6OO, £660, and £960.' T. Conole's tender ae £6OO ac eepted. Mangaoporo bridge: Tenders held over for discussion with new district Engineer. Tapuwaeroa road, metalling : Three tenders received. £285, £195, and £313; C. K. Tamblin's tender at £195 accepted. Waipiri-Kopuaroa metalling: Three tenders received, £lO5. £142, and £l3l. If. f'ann's tender at £lO5 accepted. Mata-Waiatahaia road, metalling: One tender at £468 received, but rejected as it was regarded as too high. Hora 'ffore Makariki track : One tender at £475 was received, hut it was rejected for the samo reason. The council received from the residents of Waip'iro Bay township ft petition aSfciny for the erection of ft bridge over the stream nmriing through the settlement. It was suggested that the bridge, to cost £ISOO, should be financed bv the Government contributing £IOOO, the council &M). and the residents of the township £250. The petition was held over for consideration when the nest year's estimates are being drawn np. The Waipiro residents also asked for the erection of another small bridge at the far end of the town, and this request Was similarly held over. The council decided that lists of taxi and lorry owners plying for hire in the county be supplied to the police, as requested.
