An able-bodied seaman, S. Field, a member u.f the crew of the Taniaroa, which reached Wellington on Tuesday night, died while the vessel wqs at Balboa from pneumonia. Deceased belonged to London.

A fine of £SO and £7 10s costs was imposed in New Plymouth yesterday on Michael B. Maher, who has been struck oft the. rolls after practising as a solicitor at Hawera for failing to have his trust account audited. When the Tamaroa was two days out from Southampton an operation was performed by the ship's doctor, assisted by two other doctors who were passengers, on a third-class female passenger suffering from appendicitis. The case was continued in Wellington yesterday before Mr. E. Page, S.M., in Which fyr'cr, an attendant, at Porirua Mental Hospital, is charged with causing bodily barm to a patient, Dr. Macks'j of the hospital, who examined the patient, said he would believe the patient's story, as bis word could be relied on. William Moseley, an attendant at the-hospital, maintained that the patient was injured in a fight with another patient and when on he ground was kicked by a third patient. .Witness had not taken much notice of the tight.
