(P.A. Messages.) A spectacular lire was witnessed in Masterton last night, when a large) wooden building, owned by it. 11. Daniel, was burnt to the ground. In the Supreme Court last week, on the application of a creditor, the official assignee was appointed interim receiver in the estate, pending the bearing of a petition to adjudicate Malcolm bankrupt. To the meantime, the official assignee has seised the books and other contents (if Malcolm’s office.

At. the Supreme Court, in Invercargill yesterday Allen Edward Tubman. 20, charged with fraudulently stating that he, had posted a letter containing money, whereas, in fact, he bad not posted it, appeared for sentence. Tubman had purchased a motor-cycle on a time-pur-chase agreement, arid as life was unable to pay the instalments on it lie claimed to have posted the amount, when lie had not done so. Accused' was sentenced to 12 months in a. Borstal, institution.
