LOS ANGELES EXHIBITION GREATEST IN U.S. HISTORY LOS ANGELES, .Sept, 8. Jn mass formation 300 airplanes flew over this and adjacent cities ty-day and the greatest American aerial exhibition of all time was on. Specifically the aircraft announced the opening of the 1928 national air races and the International Aeronautical Exposition. When the planes returned to Alines Field that airport already was flooded with some of the thousands who wilP view the races, strata and air demonstrations of the eight-day programme. Southern Calilornia's proverbial clear weather held, although the temperature was high. Flying conditions were said to be perfect. To-day’s events were interesting, hut there wea-e no races such as will fill the next seven days with sensations. The initial race will ho on -Sunday when the 50-mile round-the-world memorial will be run. A 60-mile TJ.S. navy squadron race will follow. On Monday the remaining contestants in the Class A New York to Los Angeles event will land at Mines Field to claim their respective portions of a £2OOO purse. Wednesday will bring the finish of the international race from Windsor, Canada, and the Class B and 0 transcontinental divisions, delayed for two days in New York by bad weather. The greatest feature of the entire programme will be the finish of the New fork to Los Angeles non-stop race. On Thursday, Art Goebel, winner of the Dole flight to Hawaii and present holder of the trans-continental speed record will compete in this event. This same day has been officially designated as “famous flyers’ day,” and such air heroes as Col. Charles Lindberglf', Clarence Chamberlain, George Haldeman, William S. Brook, Leslie Maitland and the round-the-world .flyers will be present;-.
