ABORIGINES ACQUITTED

MURDER CHARGE FAILS (Received November 9, noon) DARWIN. Nov. 9. In the murder trial both aborigines were acquitted and discharged. Constable Murray, in evidence, said that while in pursuit of the natives at least 17 aborigines, including two lubras, were killed. The natives threw boomerangs, which were effective at 150yds., at the police. The constable added that the reason why the police did not shoot to wound rather than kill was because they bad no means of succouring those wounded. They were hundreds of miles from civilisation.

Two aborigines were charged with the murder of Frederick Brooks, in Central Australia. Brooks was ambushed by a party of natives who clubbed him to death and buried the body in a rabbit burrow. The police pursued the natives for 60 miles into the bush. The natives showed fight, and eight were shot dead. Two survivors were sent for trial.
