SLIDING MOUNTAIN

The Times’ Geneva correspondent states that the authorities have ordered tin' immediate evacuation of several 'ilia go» in the Taglio Valley, whither the mountain .Motto Albino, five miles Itotn Ikllinzonn, 3600 ft. high, is slowly sliding. The mountain’s unstable composition was known in 1888, but the movement was only recorded in 1925, when it was noted that signals at the top had moved 20in. since 1919. The mountain covers lj miles, and measures 560,000.000 cubic feet. The summit has moved 69in. and subsided 82in. in 36 years. It is now slipping much faster, in some places equal to six yards it year, with a tendency to increase.
