Twenty thousand swimmers of both sexes started to swim from different parts of Germany along the rivers of the Rhine, Saatv Neckar and Moselle to Cologne, where the German athletic gymnastic meeting will 'be held. A contingent-left. Basle on Saturday and carried a casket, containing greetings from the committee of the Swiss National Gymnastic fete at Lucerne. A doctor in a. motor launch accompanies the swimmers. The distance from Basle to Cologne by river is 250 miles. 12,000 CLUBS TAKE PART (Australian and N.Z. Pr««t Association! COLOGNE, July 22. Twelve thousand clubs with a total membership of 2,000,000, including representatives of Germany's lost colonics, will compete in the gymnastic meeting here. One. hundred and thirty special trains have already conveyed visitors, hundreds of whom slept in the open air owing to. the lack of accommodation.
