REP. SELECTIONS TRAINING ARRANGEMENTS Preparations were made by the Poverty jday Hockey Association's executive at its meeting last night, for the selection and training of iadies' and men's teams, which are set down for engagements against Wairoa and Auckland respectively. Mr. A. Cassia presided over a large attendance of delegates. With regard to the Wairoa challenge for the Single Cup and badges, tne match to be played with ladies teams, it was decided to play the game on Thursday, August 2. Subsequent advice from the Wairoa association indicated that a meeting of that body was held last night, and that arrangements had been made for the date decided on by the Poverty Bay body. The selectors asked that they should be permitted to coach the ladies' team, and the association agreed, instructing them not to consider for selection any player who failed to wear shin pads, or sprigs in her playing shoes. The following players were selected to attend the reserve on 'Thursday afternoon for practice, when the selectors would be iu attendance: Mrs. Sefton (Puha), Mrs. Sangvvell (Kia Toa), Misses K. Pohatu (Kia Toa), P. Benson (Old Girls), M. Miller (Old Girls), M. Nikora (Kia Toa), P. Priestley (Old Girls), M. Campbell (High School), 11. Wauchop (High School),-r. iienson (High School), D. Patterson (nigh School), L. Burns (High School), M. Stewart (Puha), P. McCarthy (Oai Girls), E. Hacehe (High School), IS. Trcngrove (Kia Toa), M. Graham (Puha), L). Graham (Puha), and L. Robertson (Puha). ' Willi.regard to the challenge for the New Zealand Challenge Shield, held by Auckland, the secretary was instructed to write asking the Auckland association to lix the date for the match during the school holidays towards the end of next month, and also to convey this advice to Mr. R. Corson, of Auckland, who had offered to act on behalf of Poverty Bay when this matter came before the Auckland executive. Mr. J. Pollock had been asked to coach the men's representee team, and it was announced last evening that Mr. Pollock had consented. It was decided to appoint Mr. Pollock, and that the selectors should approach those who would be chosen to train, and to arrange practices to suit the coach. It was decided to play only one men's match this week, on account of the races and the ladies' representative practice intervening. The Te Karaka delegate asked for a ladies' match to be played at Te Karaka next Thursday, but the request could not be acceded to on account of the arrangements to play the Single v Cup match the. following week, and the necessity for practising. It was decided to hold the Kerekere Cup and Haapu Rose Bowl competitions either'the last week in August, or the iirst week in September, it being considered that the later date would suit the convenience of the country players better.

In view of the late entry of the Puha team into the ladies' competition, it was decided to extend the usual privilege, and allot the average number of points, which in this instance is five. THIS WEEK'S GAMES.

Games set down for this week are:

Thursday.—Men : Waerenga-a-hika v. Higli School, 3.15 p.m., No. 1 ground, referees, Messrs. Piesse and Gracie. Thursday.—Ladies : Practice match, 3 p.m. Saturday: Ladies' trial game; 2.15 p.m.,' referees, Messrs. Cameron and Cassin.
