(Herald Correspondent.) Another of Wairoa s pioneers has passed away at the age of 66 years, iu the person of Mr. Peter Cram, of Queen street. The deceased, a very hardworking man, and straightforward in all his dealings, engaged in the coaching business in the early days. lie was the forerunner of the Hawke's Bay Motor Co. on the present site. Coming to New Zealand as a boy, with his mother and sister, ho arrived at Wairoa from South (Jtago about 36 years ago and had been connected with the district, ever since. In later years be built and conducted a private hotel. The deceased leaves, besides his widow, formerly Miss Nellie Crozior, three daughters and one son. Mrs. Nolan Redstone (Cisbonie). Mrs. A. Corskio (Masterton), Mis. Nickalis (YVaipukurau), and Mr. John Cram (Ongaonga).

Boring has been commenced at the site of the Waihua railway bridge, on the route of the East, Coast, railway. At a meeting qf the householders, hold there recently, the following were elected as a school committee .- Mcsdames McMillan, E. Jlawkcns, and Nehemki, Messrs. Tumataroa, A. Paul, H- To Abo, K. Hawkens, J. Spooner, J. Foster (chairman!, and N. Nchomin. (secretary).

Good progress is being made with the upper storey of the- new premises for. the Bank of Australasia in Marino Parade. Tile structure is. being solidly built and) should look an imposing edifice when the scaffolding has been removed. Various functions aro being mooted in furtherance of the object of raising funds to provide a dental clinic. The two men arrested at Napier for having obtained goods from the store of Messrs. V. E. Winter and Son by false pretences have been remanded again at Napier. The men are Alexander James Churton, 28. and Frank Ernest Hart, 22. Bail was granted at £IOO each and two sureties of £IOO. . The Wairoa Hockey sub-Association has been invited to send a team to compete at the championship tournament at Timaru, and, .alternatively, to assist the fund. It was decided that the sub-union could not sec its way to assist, but would be glad to see some Wairoa players included. Mr. X. Poyzer, sen., who is reported to bo very ill, is a- patient in a local private hospital.—Two settlers of long standing in this district, with their families, will shortly leave Wairoa. Mr. and Mrs. B. Bevel,' will soon leave for Napier, where thev havo purchased a business. Among the local institutions that will miss their activities are the Presbyterian Church, the Bowling aud Croquet Club, and Ihe Scottish Society. —Mr. V. E. Winter's many friends will regret to learn that in a few days ho will have to undergo an ooeration at a Napier private hospital.—Messrs. A. (5. Nolan, county chairman, and B. G. Signal!, county clerk, returned from Wellington at the week-end.
