AUCKLAND AERO CLUB (SDecial to the Herald.) " AUCKLAND,,this day. Rapid progress is being made with the establishment of the Auckland Aero Club. A large number of members have joined, including women, who intend to lcam to fly. A* start on the hangar at Mangere will be made next week. With a view to an extension of the club's activities, a hangar will be constructed to house six light machines. Fifty acres of ground has been leased for a nominal rental of a few shillings a week from Mr. J. Mcßac Peacock, who is taking an interest in the. c'iub. The. interest foeussed on aviation by the formation of the local club has already induced three Auckland commercial 'firms to consider the purchase of machines. Major Keith Caldwell, who lias been appointed club captain, commanded No. 74 squadron 'in France. The instructor, Major G. Cowper, secured his "wings" at Upavon in 1915. He served in the Roval Flying Corps and in the Australian Flying Corps, his service including a period in France.
