EXCELLENT PROSPECTS

THE DAIRYING SEASON (Special to the Herald.) WELLINGTON, this day. According to a gentleman who is closely associated with big dairy interests, the prospects of dairy farmers for the coming season are very bright. Canadian cheese production, he says, is down approximately 10 per cent, coinpared with last year. Already Tooley street buyers are active in the South Island, and a number of factories have, already sold their August to December productions iat prices varying from to 9id f.o.b. Further offers have recently been made for August and September production at lOd f.o.b. The prospects for butter also he considers are exceedingly good. August and September production consigned to London will probably return Is 6|d to Is 7d f.o.b.* The average price for the season will depend entirely upon Australian production. Canadian buyers are paying Is 4-jd f.o.b. for October to March shipments, which price is equivalent to Is 3d in London on a consignment basis. The outlook for both butter and cheese for the coming season is unquestionably excellent as regards prices, and with a normal season production should show an expansion of from 10 to 15 per cent., so that the dairy industry and the country generally may look fprward to the coming season with confidence.
