WATERSIDE STOP-WORK MEETINGS

POSITION OF PERISHABLE GOODS The monthly stop-work meetings of two hours' duration held by the waterside workers at the main New Zealand 'otts naturally delay the transit of fruit and other perishable goods which are due for handling when the meetings beriri. The matter lias been taken up by 'the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, which lias wrftteu to the Water side Workers' Federation, the Shipowners' Federation, the Fruitgrowers' Federation, the Assoe ; ation of Chambers of Commerce, and other bodies interested, asking that an effort be made to avoid the holding up of perishable goods in this way. A letter from the Wellington Chamber of Commerce on the subject was received by the Council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, and mem-

ibers of the Auckland Council considered that, the action taken by the Wellington Chamber deserved to be supported.
