COMPETITIONS SOCIETY

The weekly meeting of the committee. of the Gishome Competitions Society was Jieid last evening, Mr. C. V. Havre presiding. There were also present: Messrs. Jl. Johns, C. Blackburn, R. B. Pearson", L. T. Barnard, A. C. Terry, F. J. Rowley, A. St-on'eham, .las. Chrisp, G. Ciawshaw, and A. J. Nicol. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. U. McLeod and W. Hamilton Irvine. In connection with the proposal to stage an additional demonstration night or matinee to augment the funds, it was pointed out that the society's expenses have been rising gradually dur ing the past few years, owing to the largely-increased prizes, higher lees for judges, etc., while the receipts reached the maximum some years ago with the capacity houses which the society is in the habit, of obtaining. After some (lis cussion, it was finally decided that a demonstration matinee should be staged on the final day of the festival, in addition to the 'demonstration night on the same Saturday. The matinee will not be confined to juveniles, and there will be a proportion of both adult and juvenile items at both demonstrations. The prices for admission are- to be ar-. ranged at a later date.

Rntrios were reported to be coming in in satisfactory numbers. Only two outside competitors have entered so fa» for the festival, but there are indications that .1 number of others will be received .before the entries close iinaalJy. It was resolved to extend the closing dale for entries to noon on Saturday. .July 28, after which time no entries will lie received.
